Why Made to Order?

I'm excited to share that I am transitioning to a "Made to Order" model for Paper Houses Design! You might wonder, why the change? Well, this shift allows me to minimise waste by producing items based on demand, rather than creating excess inventory. This means I'll be focusing on creating pieces that are popular and truly resonate with you, my amazing customers.

The "Made to Order" approach also brings more flexibility to the table. If you fancy a cushion without a zip or prefer a darker backing, all you need to do is drop me an email! This level of customisation ensures that you get exactly what you want, tailored to your preferences.

Sustainability is a core value of my studio, and this change is another significant step in that direction. We’re not perfect, but as Katie Treggiden says “The planet doesn’t need a few of us doing this perfectly…It needs all of us taking imperfect actions every day.” Previously, all wholesale orders were already being handled on a made-to-order basis, and this approach has proven to work exceptionally well for the studio.

I’m also looking forward to making more screen-printed unique items! Keep an eye on my newsletter for more on that.

I've drawn inspiration from other fantastic brands, such as Law + Roak, who have successfully embraced the "Made to Order" concept. I truly believe that this shift will not only benefit my business but also contribute to a more sustainable future.

While most of the items will be made to order, there may be occasional pieces in stock. Sometimes, it's just as quick to make two items as it is to make one, leading to a small inventory of ready-made pieces.

I've noticed that our community often takes time to consider their purchases, oftentimes revisiting the studio or browsing our online store multiple times before making a decision. This mirrors my approach to shopping, and I wholeheartedly believe that thoughtful consideration before purchasing is a key aspect of sustainability.

"Have nothing in your house that you do not know to be beautiful or believe to be useful."

It brings to mind the timeless advice of William Morris above. This ethos resonates deeply with my approach to crafting each piece, ensuring that it not only serves a purpose but also adds beauty to your home.
