Paper Houses Design is a textiles lifestyle brand based in Aberdeenshire. Creating lifestyle products that connect people with their homes, themselves and their well-being.
Inspiration for designs come from the everyday, overlooked and even mundane. Designer Mhairi Allan develops these in to transeasonal patterns. Mhairi's work has a contemporary nostalgia to it, being inspired by Mid-century Modern ethos's. Collections are designed consciously and made in an ethical way, honing craft knowledge and modern technology. Paper Houses Design focus on sourcing the best elements that make up the pieces to create ethical homewares and fashion accessories with a luxury feel. The cushion inserts are made in the UK and use British wool, an ethical and sustainable filling. New items will see the using of off-cuts of fabric from the production of other products. Proudly creating a useful item whilst reducing waste. The pieces are not just for the sake of having something, but they are beautiful and useful.

“Lovely products. I’ve so far bought from the Signals collection. I bought a tote bag for myself and a cushion to match. Both colourful, unique, well made and ethically thought through in terms of materials, ink and labour. I bought other products as gifts so I can’t reveal that yet due to the lockdown but I’m sure the recipients will love their items. Looking forward to seeing new designs.”

“I bought two lampshades from Paper Houses and was really impressed with the quality and vibrant colours. They arrived in cellophane and I'm not a fan of single-use plastics, however, it isn't cellophane at all - the protective covering is actually 100% biodegradable! Fantastic!”

“Received a handmade cloth basket as a gift and have been using it for almost two years as a plant pot cover. It hasn't faded, frayed or stained, and adds a splash of colour to an otherwise plain looking plant pot. Very well made, and beautiful use of colour.”
