The Making Hour. 16

This week for The Making Hour I’ve been paper folding, this week and last to be exact. Last Sunday I joined in on Kate Colin’s workshop, beforehand a kit was posted out with all the amazing papers and tools needed.

Kate’s workshop was well-paced and she went over lots of techniques. Explaining the difference between mountain and valley folds and how these create a 3D form when created in a regular pattern. Each time I started one I thought it was like magic, turning from flat paper to a sculptural thing.

I think my favourite fold has to the v-fold, it reminds me of Kate’s iconic lampshades.

In the intro, Kate showed us her work, how her folding love started with her dad’s interest in mathematics and geometry and how folds appear in lots of things including architecture!

I’ve been practising again this week trying to perfect the technique. I’m wanting to build up a collection of fold experiments to draw from them at a later date. The lines, shadows and forms created have so much potential.
