Return to Bio Colour Exploration
Since my Second Life Colour project in 2024 I've been exploring colour from natural sources, specifically for screen printing on fabric. It’s been brilliant but I'm lost! I'm still stuck on whether it will be possible for me to use these colour sources in my practice. If you've ever seen my work, and I'm guessing you have as you’ve found my hidden blog, then you’ll know it’s bold! I had been exploring bio waste, like fruit peels but the results were varying. I'm used to much more controlled colour development. Yes believe it or not textiles use a lot of equations and maths! So if you're looking to go down this route folks then keep a hold of that casino. I digress. Exploring botanicals is fun but I need more knowledge and stability so I've got some extracts and booked on to a masterclass in colour. Think of extracts like diluting juice, squeeze some blackcurrants and you'll get a bit of juice, but a bottle of concentrated diluting juice will give you jugs full. So the extract is like that but for colour, and it's a powder.
Previously, I attended a workshop in Brixton run by the brilliant Lara and Flo of Ceres Studios. This was an intro to printing with dye pastes made from natural materials. Thanks to VACMA from Aberdeen City Council and Creative Scotland I'm going back this June (less than two weeks actually) to undertake the master workshop! I cannot wait, I've got so many questions and I'm sure I'll come back with more knowledge to explore which will lead to more questions! But that's what design and craft are about, asking questions.
At the end of this project I'm going to do more public engagement so keep an eye out for that! Until then follow along and let's all keep asking questions.
